This MasterClass presents the harmony and melody of film and TV music between 1945 and 1965. From the great masters such as David Raksin, Hugo Friedhofer, Johnny Mandel, Miklos Rosza and Alex North to the great composers of American television series.
The participants will be guided step by step through this harmony, melody and rhythm. Among other things, it shows how many completely different possibilities of re-harmonizing a melody, a theme or a motif are possible.
Participants will also gain an insight into working with an orchestra in the studio, including the "Studio Dirigat".
Further points will be the orchestration or the writing down of a score.
Motives, themes and/or melodies are worked out together and then harmonised in different ways.
Kuno Schmid leads through the process - from a musical idea to the finished score. This includes the implementation of sketches with the help of the American chord numbering up to the layout of a score.
Participants should have an advanced level of knowledge.
Kuno Schmid is a pianist, composer and arranger and a veteran of the international jazz scene. Collaborations among others with Patti Austin, Till Brönner, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham, Jerry Goodman, Peter Herbholzheimer, Paul Kuhn, Alphonse Mouson, Toots Thielmans, Caterina Valente.
