Midge Costin is the Kay Rose Professor in the Art of Sound Editing at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts and the producer/director of the award-winning feature documentary Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound.  She is the first to hold this endowed chair given by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg in 2005.  For over 25 years she has been a feature film sound editor having freelanced at every major studio in Hollywood. Costin has edited sound for filmmakers such as Tony Scott (Crimson Tide), Jerry Bruckheimer (Coyote Ugly / The Rock), John Waters (Crybaby), David Wolper (Imagine: John Lennon) and Amy Heckerling (Look Who’s Talking Too). Two of the films, Crimson Tide and Armageddon, for which she edited sound effects and dialogue, received Academy Award nominations for Sound Editing. 
Costin produced & directed the award-winning feature documentary, Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound which had its world premiere at Tribeca in April of 2019 and went on to Cannes Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival and festivals all over the world before having its theatrical release last November. She was nominated for Critics Choice Award for Director of First Documentary Feature and the film received nominations for ACE Best Feature Documentary Editing, Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) Best Sound Editing, Women Film Critics Circle for Best Feature Doc, was a NY Times Critics Pick, and won Cinema Audio Society (CAS) for Best Achievement in Mixing for a feature documentary.   
As a passionate teacher and advocate for creative use of sound in the cinematic arts, she has traveled internationally to lecture on sound design & editing, and her career in Hollywood. Costin is a past Board member of the MPSE, and has been a long-standing member of the Editors Guild. She received her B.A. from Smith College in Art History, and her Masters in Cinema Production from USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Wir bitten alle Teilnehmer*innen Ihren eigenen Laptop/MacBook nach Möglichkeit mit ProTools mitzubringen.
Für ein mögliches „Fieldrecording“ bitten wir alle Teilnehmer*innen, ihr eigenes Audio Recording Equipment mitzubringen.

Die MasterClass richtet sich an Sounddesigner*innen, Toningenieur*innen, Musiker*innen, Komponist*innen, Regisseur*innen und Produzent*innen.

Die Teilnehmer*innen erhalten im Vorfeld der MasterClass eine Hausaufgabe zur Erstellung eines eigenen Sounddesigns. Die Ergebnisse werden Teil der Diskussionen am letzten Tag des Workshops sein.
